This year, World Standards Day will be held on October 14. The theme for 2018 is "International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution".
Characterized by a fusion of technologies that blur the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres, the Fourth Industrial Revolution will enable workers on the front line, on the road and in the field to make smarter decisions, solve tougher problems and do their jobs better. Advances in software and technology will empower people to a far greater degree than ever before —unlocking their latent perceptiveness and creativity.
However, the rapid pace of change brings many challenges. A new generation of smart technologies, characterized by the use of big data, increased integration, cloud storage and open communication, increases the vulnerability of data and the risk of security breaches. International standards will guide organizations toward ensuring safety and minimizing risk.
