​In Indonesia, SGS is pleased to announce the opening and KAN accreditation of its newly relocated consumer goods testing laboratory and offices.

At 5,000 m2, this new laboratory more than doubles the size of SGS's previous facility and means the local teams can now deliver a one stop testing facility, with extensive capabilities and capacity for chemical and physical testing of products including:

  • Toys and juvenile products
  • Food contact materials
  • Cosmetics
  • Automotive
  • Electronic and electrical
  • Hardgoods

In addition to added capacity today, this new facility offers scope for investment and expansions into new services and technologies to ensure the business remains at the forefront of consumer products testing in the region.

The full range of services in Jakarta facilitates the quality, compliance, and safety of consumer products across global supply chains, for finished products, materials and/or components, based on defined standards, regulations and client specific performance requirements. Laboratory capabilities including physical test, chemical test, functional test, microbiology test, mechanical and electrical test.

Following relocation earlier in 2018, to this new facility, SGS is pleased to announce that the new facility has been accredited by KAN – the National Accreditation Body of Indonesia. This ensures continuity of service and offers clients assurance of the quality of services available.

Indonesia's textile and footwear industry has grown significantly and is one of the major contributors to the country's economy, contributing 6.5% of GDP and employing more than 3 million people. The country is also recognized as one of the major players in the manufacture of good quality textiles, textile products and footwear, for both domestic and export markets.

Indonesia is one of the main producing countries for several superior toys products that are known worldwide, with a total toy market of about USD 1 billion and employing more than 23,000 people.

The cosmetics industry is one of Indonesia’s fastest growing industries, up 6.35% in 2017. The automotive industry, which contributes 20% of GDP – 30% if combined with its derivative industries – and employs 1.5 million people, saw 2.6% growth in 2017.

Overall, the consumer and retail industry in Indonesia shows positive growth every year and makes a significant contribution to the Indonesian economy.
