SGS Expands Woodchip Testing Operations in Vietnam
SGS opens new woodchip testing laboratories to assist Vietnam's growing woodchip export industry.
Vietnam annually exports 13-14 million tons of woodchips and is the primary supplier of plantation Eucalyptus and Acacia woodchips to the pulp industries in Japan and China. In the last ten years, it has gradually expanded its operations and is now the largest exporter of hardwood chips to the rest of Asia.
International buyers need to ensure the quality of their woodchips. To service this market, SGS is expanding its woodchip operations in Vietnam. Currently, it operates woodchip testing laboratories in Quy Nhon port, Binh Dinh province, Dung Quat port, Quang Ngai province, and Cai Lan port, Quang Ninh province. These will soon be joined by a new laboratory in Nghi Son port, Thanh Hoa province, and there are plans to further expand our Vietnamese operations as demand requires.
