SGS Germany GmbH has been accredited to perform Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA) verification audits.

Approved in November 2016, SGS in Germany has now completed its first verification and pre-auditing projects, related to the production of malting barley and sugar beet, and is developing a range of services to help farmers and food production operatives understand FSA and implement more sustainable production methods.

FSA is a tool developed by the Sustainable Agricultural Initiative (SAI) Platform to help farmers and food/drink businesses assess, improve and communicate better agricultural performance and sustainability. It is not a certification system, rather, it is a tool to help stakeholders aiming at compliance with SAI requirements.

The program offers advantages for both farmer and food production businesses. For farmers, it improves sustainability, reduces the time and cost of multiple assessments, and provides access to new buyers. For food/drink businesses, it helps them meet ambitious sustainable sourcing targets and promotes positive sustainability outcomes on the ground.

SGS has an international network of auditors, each with an expert understanding of the farming and social topics covered by the program, to help stakeholders verify their FSA Programme audits. In addition, SGS in Germany is also developing a range of services to help stakeholders understand and adopt the FSA programme and sustainable agricultural practices.
