On December 8, 2017, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted unanimously in favor and approved the final rules  for Safety Standard for Children’s Folding Chairs and Stools codified under 16 CFR 1232.
This final rule amended the list of NORs issued in16 CFR part 1112 to include the standard for children’s folding chairs and stools and product registration rule in 16 CFR part 1130.
The rule was published in Federal Register on December 15, 2017 and incorporated by reference the current ASTM F2613–17a Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Children’s Folding Chairs and Stools.
ASTM F2613–17a describes a children’s folding chair or stool as seating furniture with a seat height of 15 inches or less with a rigid frame that is intended to be used as a support for the body, limbs, or feet of a child when sitting or resting in an upright or reclining position, can be folded for transport or storage, and may include a rocking base. The product is intended to be used by a single child who can get out of the chair unassisted.
This final rule will become effective June 15, 2018 and applies to products manufactured or imported on or after the effective date.
Manufacturer of juvenile products must follow safety standards which have been designed and set forth by regulators to minimise the risk of hazard for children when using such products.
