SGS Awards IFA Protect & Sustain Certification to PT Pupuk Kaltim Indonesia
SGS is pleased to announce that PT Pupuk Kaltim Indonesia has been certified and awarded the International Fertilizer Association’s (IFA) Protect & Sustain (P & S) certificate for product stewardship excellence in Indonesia.
This is the first P & S certificate to be awarded in Indonesia. The company, along with its subsidiaries, is one of the largest manufacturers and sellers of fertilizer in the country.
Protect & Sustain certification is part of the IFA’s Product Stewardship initiative, built on the 12 guiding principles of safety, health and environmental management (SHE). Product stewardship is a step that extends SHE management beyond the factory gate to cooperation with suppliers, transporters and retailers. In many respects, it is about putting in place responsible business management processes across a product's life cycle.
By taking measures to ensure that its products are responsibly developed, sourced, manufactured, stored, transported and applied, the Association and its participating members demonstrate their commitment towards ensuring that fertilizer and their intermediate products are used to the benefit of all, and that its inherent risks are at least minimized, and where possible eliminated.
When asked about the significance of this certificate for PT Pupuk Indonesia, Head of International Sales at SGS, Jeff Dowson, stated: “We are honored to present this achievement to PT Pupuk. By receiving this certification, with excellence level stewardship, they are cementing their commitment to producing high level, environmentally sustainable products, as well as strengthening their competitive advantage within Indonesia, by being the first company in the country to accomplish this.”
