SGS has successfully completed the ISO 17025 audit and can now offer certification to ISO 17065 for hover boards destined for sale and distribution in North America, for UL 2272 Electrical Systems for Self-Balancing Scooters.
Ensuring Hover Board UL 2272 Compliance
UL 2272 offers a formal framework for the evaluation, testing and certification of self-balancing scooters, commonly referred to as hover boards. This accreditation means that SGS consumer electronics experts can now test hover boards and certify them against UL 2272. This ensures that products destined for the US market meet the requirements of all the relevant regulations for devices of this kind, including those covering products for adults and children.
The SGS team will review a manufacturer's technical documentation during the design and development of new products or when there’s a need to demonstrate compliance after a product has been shipped. This review will help to identify any potential gaps or issues.
Global Hover Board Evaluation Services
Until recently, a lack of specific safety standards for this product category has led to a number of quality and safety issues. To support the industry, SGS has developed a range of testing protocols that help hover board manufacturers to meet the regulatory challenges posed by these popular devices.
In both the EU and North America, hover boards have been investigated for a range of safety hazards. The most frequent of these concern faulty cut-off switches, lithium batteries and non-compliant plugs. SGS offers a complete product evaluation service too, which includes:
- Performance tests
- Critical safety tests
- Construction checks
- Marking and labeling reviews
- Instruction manual reviews
SGS works with clients around the world who are seeking UL 2272 certification to conduct, or witness, all relevant tests in the US, as required by this standard.
