Customer Story: SPI Becomes the First ISO 9001:2015 Certified Organization in the Philippines
Sumisetsu Philippines, Inc. (SPI) has become the first organization in the Philippines to be ISO 9001:2015 certified.
SPI is an electrical and mechanical contractor with headquarters in Makati City, Philippines. Incorporated in 1990, it is an affiliate of Sumitomo Densetsu Co. Ltd., which was established in Tokyo in 1950. SPI is licensed as a Category A contractor under the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board.
The company achieved its first ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) certification in 2003, with SGS as its certifying body. It aimed to achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification in order to:
- Confirm that it had effectively implemented its planned management systems
- Ensure that its existing management systems were robust and relevant
- Confirm that its management system had helped it to improve occupational safety, ensure quality work and raise construction standards
Once its ISO 9001:2015 management system was in place, Sumisetsu was better able to control its resources. The risk of loss due to services not meeting customer specifications, or being below industrial or international standards, was reduced. This has helped to increase customer confidence.
For employees, communication, problem solving and decision making have improved significantly. Employees are better able to identify risks and contribute to minimizing losses. They are motivated to constantly improve their way of doing work.
