SGS Laboratory in Tashkent Receives ISO 17025 Accreditation for Cotton Yarn Testing
SGS’s operation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, has become the first independent cotton yarn testing laboratory with ISO 17025 accreditation in Central Asia.
SGS’s yarn testing services are helping Uzbekistan’s growing cotton export industry demonstrate quality and consistency, adding value to their finished products. Established in 2016, this facility is the first and only ISO 17025 accredited yarn testing facility in the region.
ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation is the benchmark standard for technical competency, demonstrating rigorous testing standards and a meticulous laboratory management system. The awarding of this standard to SGS in Tashkent is further evidence of the company’s continued commitment to delivering the highest quality testing facilities for Uzbekistan’s yarn industry. The laboratory is equipped with Uster Tester 5 and has integrated full High Volume Instrument Testing for raw cotton to serve the trade and the spinning mill industry. Yarn is the transitional point in the manufacture of fabric, following raw material. To guarantee the quality of yarn to potential purchasers, it must be tested for several main factors, including:
- Yarn twist
- Linear density
- Yarn strength
- Yarn elongation
- Yarn evenness
- Yarn hairiness
Uzbekistan is currently the sixth largest producer of cotton in the world, and it is the fourth largest exporter of cotton fiber. It produces around 3 million tons of raw cotton and 0.9 million tons of cotton fiber annually.
To allow this growth to continue, importers of Uzbekistan’s cotton fiber must be assured of the quality and consistency of their product. It is vital, therefore, that cotton yarn producers utilize the services of an accredited independent testing facility, in order to guarantee their cotton quality to their customers. SGS in Tashkent can undertake integrated high-volume instrument testing for raw cotton to help both the export market and the domestic spinning mill industry.
