SGS has relocated and expanded its state-of-the-art textile and footwear laboratory in Gurgaon, India.

Extending to 45,000 sq ft, with capacity for further expansion, this laboratory is one of the biggest testing facilities of its kind within India, facilitating physical as well as chemical testing.

With the latest technology and equipment, this new laboratory offers a full range of physical, functional and chemical testing from raw materials to finished products against the requirements of numerous standards and regulations, such as EU REACH, US CPSIA and many more. In addition, the laboratory is equipped to handle tests for the detection of restricted substances. With these improved facilities, SGS is able to offer faster turn-around times for clients and enhance its presence in the consumer and retail sector.

Strategically located in Gurgaon, India’s sourcing hub, SGS’s new laboratory is able to service a vast client base spread across North India, and to benefit from the area’s connectivity and transport network due to its proximity to Delhi. Thus ensuring that customers have access to world class state-of-the-art laboratory services within their vicinity.

India’s textile industry has seen continuous growth in production and exports due to favourable economic conditions, and government initiatives in terms of policies and funding. Increasing production has led to a rise in textiles exports to developed countries such as France, Germany, the UK, and the USA, as well as a spurt in demand for inspection and testing services. India is one of the largest textiles exporters. In 2014-15 India was the world’s second largest textiles exporter with cross-border trades totalling 41.4 billion USD. In addition, the textiles sector is one of the largest contributors to India’s export business, accounting for approximately 11% of total exports[i]. Exports of leather and leather products has increased extensively over recent decades and reached 6.5 billion USD in 2014-15, recording a cumulative annual growth rate of about 13.1% (over a span of five years)[ii]. To meet this increased demand for export goods, SGS’s Gurgaon laboratory offers a comprehensive range of services include auditing, inspection, and testing spanning all segments of the textile and footwear supply chain. All the tests are conducted using sophisticated, cutting-edge technology equipment and knowledge, which stands in line with SGS’s commitment of quality and excellence in service delivery. The new laboratory also strengthens SGS’s testing network in India, which includes laboratory facilities in Bangalore, Chennai and Tirupur.
