On June 8-12, 2015, SGS attended the 14th World Renewable Energy Congress (WREC) in Bucharest, Romania, and showcase its comprehensive services portfolio for renewable energy.

The 14th World Renewable Energy Congress (WREC) has taken place under the theme "Clean energy for a sustainable development”. The Congress was organised by WREN – World Renewable Energy, in cooperation with University "Politehnica” of Bucharest, Romanian Academy, and University of Civil Engineering Bucharest.

SGS, the only inspection, testing, certification and verification company present at the congress, held a presentation on policy, finance and education. The presentation entitled “Risk management during the life cycle of a renewable energy project” was presented by Mrs. Mihaela Sarbu. This was a good opportunity to introduce the comprehensive SGS services portfolio for renewable energy with a focus on the wind and solar sector.

To ensure the success of every project, effective risk management is vital in every phase. SGS offers a comprehensive range of risk management and assessment services supporting a structured approach to manage risk at every stage of the renewable energy project from the very early stage, starting with design, planning, purchasing, execution, and commissioning up to operation and maintenance as well as decommissioning.

Romania has had one of the most dynamic growths in renewable energy in the last four years, reaching 4000 MW, of which 2500 MW is in wind energy and about 1500 MW in solar energy. Although investment in renewable energy has stagnated in 2015, due to changes in the Romanian government’s incentive policy, i.e. reduction and/or postponement of green certificates, the renewable energy sector is still a business with growth potential in the near future.

SGS’s participation in this renewable energy event, profiles the company as a competent, reliable service provider and a solid, trustworthy partner for both lenders and owners.

During the five days of the event, more than 250 speakers from every continent, representing environmental agencies, non- profit organization, state regulators, universities, research institution, manufacturers, consultants, experts in renewable energy sources, introduced their experience in the implementation of renewable technologies, results of years of research, as well as EU energy policy, and international trends in the energy sector. Presentations on new innovation theories and technologies were given. World-class speakers from academic and research institutions emphasized the increasing role of renewable energy in achieving the objectives of an world independent of conventional energy. It was stated that on a European level, that by 2050 85% of energy consumption, both electrical and thermal, is expected to come from renewable energy sources.
