After ISO meetings in Tokyo and London in 2015, to discuss comments received on the DIS, a consensus has been reached: the text for FDIS 14001 has been approved and is expected to be published in July.

The FDIS text confirms the emerging changes (new concepts and terminology) proposed for Environmental Management Systems: strategic environmental management, leadership, protecting the environment, environmental performance, lifecycle thinking, communication, and Documentation. The FDIS reveals an increasingly strategic approach in Environmental Management.

The FDIS is a final draft with only editorial changes to come after it. Therefore, the process for a new version of ISO 14001 continues with the standard publication due by September 2015.

More information from ISO is available at ISO/TC 207/SC 1 (Environmental Management Systems).
