A state-of-the-art field station in Wyoming, Illinois, and successful field research sponsor GLP audits boost SGS Agricultural Services in the USA.

Major Upgrade in Field Research

At 10,000 square feet, including a 40% shop area with radiant in-floor heating, our new field research site has undergone a major upgrade. Equipped to conduct an array of field studies on-site, the facility also has dedicated chemical and seed storage space, alongside a large freezer room.

Expanded and upgraded, this field research site also boasts five full-time scientists to support client projects. With a diverse range of expertise, the team has the facilities and capability to conduct trials including, but not exclusively:

  • Seed, soil or foliar pesticide efficacy
  • Soil fertility
  • GLP trials:
    • Residue
    • GMO traits

Set in 80 acres of prime Illinois farmland, this new facility is ideally placed for clients seeking field research services.

The land is composed of two of the most productive soils in the state, enjoys almost flat topography and benefits from parent materials of deep loess over glacial outwash.

Illinois’ long season and temperate climate is ideal for the production of a wide range of commercial and vegetable crops, making our facility the ideal place to conduct field trials.

Auditing Assures Quality

SGS field research stations across the USA, from Santa Maria, California in the west, to Wyoming, Illinois, via Brookings in South Dakota, successfully passed sponsor company audits in 2014, confirming the quality of our GLP trials services.

Systems and processes, as well as work being conducted for the season and our on-site personnel impressed the auditors and sponsor companies.

Operating across a broad spectrum of the agriculture industry, our sponsor companies include plant breeders, seed producers, agrochemical and biological companies, fertilizer suppliers and equipment manufacturers.

Multiple Trials Available

Our experienced staff can conduct field trials to support the screening, development and registration of agricultural and horticultural chemicals, bio-pesticides, fertilizers and new plant varieties (including GMO). We can conduct trials across a network of field stations, which, located in several different EPA zones, give you the advantage of many geographical and climate options, all managed by just one company.

To ensure quality and consistency we use a wide range of specialized equipment, continuously review our processes and invest in the most up-to-date methods and tools for our fields, laboratories and offices.

SGS field locations also have facilities to conduct testing on all types of crops, including: grains, vegetables, oil seeds, fruits, grasses, animal feed and non-grass animal feeds. All our testing facilities comply with EPA regulations and follow GLP Quality Management Systems for conducting regulatory studies for local, international and global submissions.
