Romania’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry annually celebrates the most competitive companies at a national level. At the twenty-first awards, on November 6, 2014, SGS Romania won second place in the “Services-activities, technical testing and analysis” field, in its large enterprise category (250 to 999 employees), based on 2013 financial results.

Romania’s Top Company awards were celebrated at a gala attended by some 500 guests, including companies, representatives of authorities, diplomatic missions accredited in Bucharest, and the National Top Companies. It was a very successful event. The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) awards are issued for six business areas:

  • R & D and high tech industry
  • Construction
  • Services
  • Trade and tourism
  • Agriculture
  • Forestry and fishing

The award system also considers the company size, ranked in five categories: very large, large, medium, small and micro enterprises.

The winners were determined using robust and complex methodologies approved and implemented across the Romanian chamber system. In determining the final rankings, 16 indicators were taken into account, including net turnover, operating profit, operating profit rate, human resource efficiency and equity efficiency (calculated on data extracted from the financial statements submitted by companies to the Ministry of Finance public and National Trade Register Office).

These indicators were used calculate the category winners as follows: 50% of net turnover, 20% operating profit, 10% profit margin, 10% efficient use of human resources and 10% efficient use of capital employed.

This year the 2014 Top National Companies program ranked the top 589 national companies active in Research & Development and high-tech; 2,393 industrial companies; 346 companies from agriculture, fishing or fish farming; 281 construction companies; 1,955 service sector and 922 in tourism trade. Of these, 919 companies received a National Award (first place), while 797 companies were ranked second and 717 ranked third. The top three companies accounted for a turnover of 80 billion Euro.

SGS Romania ranked the same second position, at the Bucharest Top Companies Gala on October 22, 2014 by Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Why is this award important?

This official recognition of SGS Romania’s performance places us ahead of our competitors, who have been lower ranked.

The first in our category (large companies) was the National Company for Control of Boilers, Lifting Equipment and Pressure Vessels, CNCIR, the state company that still has the monopoly for in-operation equipment inspection, in the regulated area.
