SGS’ Systems and Services Certifications (SSC) and Consumer Testing Services (CTS) Divisions recently joined forces to host a stand at the 19th India International Seafood Show, held in Chennai, 10-12 January 2014. Mr. Sanjay Ghoshal, National Sales Manager (Food Certification Services) along with his team, delivered a presentation on SGS’ services in the seafood sector.

India International Seafood Show (IISS) is one of the largest seafood fairs in Asia. It is a biennial show and provides a common forum for seafood processors, exporters, importers, aqua-culturists, processing machinery manufacturers and allied industries, to meet under one roof. The show attracts a large number of seafood trading people and enables them to discover and learn about ways to strengthen the seafood trade for their mutual benefit.

IISS 2014 was organised by MPEDA and SEAI. This three day seafood show comprises a site tour organised by MPEDA, demonstrations of fish filleting and fish packing by selected manufacturers, technical sessions about the expectation of Seafood Export Association of India with Indian government, regulatory requirements for exporting seafood products to Japan and the EU, regulatory requirements for product labelling, FSSAI import requirements, global seafood markets, and much more.

Major seafood exporters from countries including India, Japan, Thailand, fish feed manufacturers, fish oil and fish meal manufacturers, S&D representative (Snowman), ingredient manufacturers,  certification bodies set up their stands with the objective of meeting their respective clients and strengthening communication. There were around 265 stalls. The show saw more than 2,000 trade visitors, giving a good visibility to SGS’ services in the seafood space.

Our existing, new and potential customers for testing and certification services visited the SGS stall and have provided valuable feedback as well as enquiring about SGS services like MSC, Global G.A.P, IFS etc.  At the SGS stall we had the opportunity to meet some potential management clients and overall, our stall provided a good platform to meet, face to face, with seafood clients and build great symbiotic relationships.

With this initiative we are more determined to maintain a good visibility for SGS’ services in the seafood space.
