In 2013, 12 SGS Certified Trainers are ready to deliver the ‘AATCC Test Method’, ‘AATCC Textile Testing in Coordination with ASTM International’ and ‘Best Practices Using AATCC Gray Scales for Visual Color Assessment’ training programs to the public. These programs include training on colorfastness, dimensional changes, appearance and physical properties of textiles and the visual color assessment. A total of 89 training programs are scheduled in nine SGS designated locations. The scheduled dates and contact information of each location are shown in the table on the following page
Who should participate?
The programs are intended for engineers, technicians, quality control personnel, inspectors, auditors, merchandisers, designers, and sales & marketing personnel, who are employed by Laboratories (Government and Independent), Apparel & Textile Product Manufacturers, Trading and Merchandising Companies, Dyeing, Printing and Finishing Mills, Agents and Retailers. Anyone involved directly with testing fabrics and garments, as well as those who review the test results, in all areas from designing to finished product also will benefit from the programs.
AATCC Test Method
This training program focuses on a collection of the most used and needed AATCC Test Methods in the global market. It has been developed to fulfill the needs of those that work directly and indirectly with many areas of textile testing. Participants will learn about colorfastness testing, which requires the assessment of many attributes including colorfastness to perspiration, light, laundering, bleaching and crocking.
They also will learn about physical properties and appearance evaluation including; smoothness appearance, crease retention, dimensional change and water resistance testing. Each certified trainer may structure their program to address the needs of the local market.
AATCC Textile Testing in Coordination with ASTM International
This training program focuses on a collection of the most used AATCC and ASTM Test Methods. It has been developed to fulfill the needs of those that work directly and indirectly with all facets of textile testing. Methods include physical, colorfastness and appearance evaluation. The program provides a fundamental education of the proper techniques for conducting the methods and standards. Training includes classroom lectures and practical applications.
Best Practices Using AATCC Gray Scales for Visual Color Assessment
This training program focuses specifically on colorfastness evaluations using both Gray Scales and the 9-Step Chromatic Transference Scale. The program is structured to provide classroom lectures, color vision testing and practical assessment followed by examination. The color vision testing includes the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue test and the Ishihara Color Blindness test. The examination is divided into three parts; visual assessment of specimens, technique evaluation and a written examination. Upon successful completion of the training, a certificate of practical application is issued for Evaluation Procedures 1, 2 and 8. Participation is open to anyone.
