As the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, SGS was honored to participate in the 2012 Interstoff Asia Essential Autumn Fair and the Textile Exchange Sustainable Textiles Conference. We were able to contribute expertise on sustainable business practices and business opportunities in emerging markets. The two events took place in Hong Kong alongside one another on October 3-5, 2012. With sustainability the theme of this year’s conference, the show organizers aimed at making positive changes across the industry by exchanging and adopting sustainable business practices.
Sustainable Textiles Conference 2012
The Textile Exchange Sustainable Textiles Conference is an annual event for a global gathering of key players and industry leaders that focuses on innovation, investment, ecological impact and integrity. This year the event moved to Hong Kong and gathered over 300 delegates from global brands, retailers and suppliers, and fiber producers to fashion designers, to discuss sustainability challenges and solutions. Dr. Karen Kyllo, Deputy Vice President of SGS Global Softlines, participated as a guest speaker in the integrity session. She not only provided the latest developments in the evolving world of standards, but also addressed the benefits and challenges of enterprise implementation and for setting up a company’s own strategy for integrity. With a thorough explanation about the varying roles, ranging from brands, suppliers to certification bodies, the attending delegates of the global textile industry were able to acquire a comprehensive appreciation of the latest opportunities and challenges in the global industry and learn how to monitor their company’s own integrity and performance more efficiently.
Interstoff Asia Autumn Fair 2012
Running at the same time and in conjunction with the Textile Exchange Sustainable Textiles Conference, the Interstoff Asia Essential Autumn Fair 2012 attracted over 170 exhibitors and 6,500 worldwide visitors. During the 3-day fair our technical experts showcased to visitors our expertise with supply chain management. Acknowledging the ever-growing importance of sourcing in China, Taiwan and Korea, Dr Jane Jiang, Softlines Technical Director of Asia Pacific for SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services (Shanghai) Co., Ltd presented a “Regulatory Update for the Textile & Footwear Industry in Asian & Emerging Markets” that attracted an audience of more than 40 buyers and suppliers. Dr Jiang covered the business opportunities and challenges in the Asian and emerging markets and discussed product compliance measures, such as quality management and safety control, illustrated with numerous case studies and a market comparison. The seminar was certainly able to leverage the capability of our clients to encounter new global challenges with all the attendant regulatory intricacies.
