SGS Implements Logistic Platform for Virus Testing and Biologics Assays to North American Clients
SGS Life Science Services is pleased to announce the opening of a Sample Processing Center in North America with Biosafety Level 2 capabilities. This logistic platform will be a centralized receiving point for North American clients with biologics samples for virus testing and related biologics assays and is scheduled to open in November 2012 at SGS’s Lincolnshire, IL facility outside of Chicago. On behalf of its clients, SGS staff will handle the biologic sample receipt, processing and onward shipment of test items to its flagship laboratories in Europe focusing on biologics and vaccine testing.
This news follows the Group’s latest acquisition of Vitrology in May 2012, where SGS expanded its portfolio for biologics testing to include cell bank and virus seeds characterization, raw material and bulk harvest testing – encompassing sterility, mycoplasma, viruses – and final product testing including residual DNA and host cell protein. SGS Vitrology currently offers these services from approximately 6,800 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratories in Glasgow, Scotland.
Additionally, in June 2012, SGS announced the completion of its laboratory expansion in Poitiers, France and launch of new cell-based assay services. American and Canadian clients will now have access to these cell-based assays as well through the Lincolnshire Sample Processing Center.
“This development provides North American clients with faster and easier access to biosafety, cell-based assay and immunogenicity analyses from SGS’s European Centers of Excellence”, said Anne Hays, Executive Vice President, SGS Life Science Services. “This serves as an example whereby SGS can utilize our geographic coverage to provide local solutions as a gateway to our global network and its expertise.
With 19 laboratories offering contract analytical and bioanalytical services, SGS leverages its strong global network to deliver harmonized solutions to large pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms. In addition to testing services for the bio/pharmaceutical market, SGS also provides clinical trial management (Phase I to IV) and services encompassing data management and statistics, pharmacovigilance and regulatory consultancy.
