Shortly before the end of the year, two “new” laboratories were integrated into the SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS, the Munich Testing Laboratory for consumer goods, and the laboratory for furniture testing in Sulzbach, in the Saarland region - and all this was done with the laboratories still in full operation. The main aim was to keep disruption to clients to an absolute minimum – and preferably none at all.
The first step was to get the fit-for-use tests going again, which had been carried out in Munich until now, without any significant interruption to the work by our experts even being noticed. And with the resumption of the tests for electrical and mechanical safety and on toys, the last section from Sulzbach was fully integrated too. In less than six weeks, staff, equipment, and fixtures and fittings had all arrived at their new home and were fully operational once again.
Why was the move necessary?
It goes without saying that we want to be more effective and even more efficient, to utilise synergies, and to intensify and optimise co-operation with other sectors such as retail service, chemical product testing, LFBG, REACH, PAK or RoHS. But the argument which really won the day was the additional added-value we could offer our clients. There were a number of services, tests, and analyses for which they only had the name of one contact person and one delivery address. Now we can handle projects faster and more flexibly than ever before, and that means helping to get products tested rapidly, competently and without complications – and bringing them safely and tested onto the market.
Consolidating the laboratories in such a short time, the fact that operations were hardly disrupted at all, and boosting capacity and performance in the long term as well: an extraordinary feat of technology, and a triumph for our laboratory specialists and organisation.
