On October 10, 2011, SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, was awarded a contract to conduct Project Monitoring services for the construction of 72 kilometers of new roads in Mumbai, India by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.

Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai established in 1882, is the primary agency responsible for urban governance in Mumbai.

In order to ensure the project meets all quality requirements, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai looked for a reliable inspection, verification, testing and certification company.

Due to its first-rate experience and competence in projects of this kind, SGS Industrial Services in India was selected from among the many competitors to work on the project, scheduled from October 2011 to August 2012.

For the entire duration of the contract, SGS will conduct comprehensive Project Monitoring to guarantee the highest quality of the new roads. A team of highly skilled SGS experts will continuously monitor all phases of the construction project, from batching to the final placement. With Project Monitoring services, SGS ensures high quality, reliability and dependability as well as assurance that any problems are detected at an early stage.

Based on long years of experience in various construction projects, SGS’s team of experts will carry out Materials Testing, calibration checks, ingredients tests as well as camber and moisture correction. Furthermore, SGS will witness bituminous extraction, sieve analysis and cement testing and other requisite tests as per approved specifications and standards for the length of the project.

As part of Project Monitoring, SGS will perform complex Quality Assurance and Quality Control inspections. With Quality Assurance and Quality Control, SGS reviews the quality assurance plan, as well as verifies the materials, parts and final products through checks, audits, inspections and witnessing. SGS Quality Assurance gives the facility owner confidence that a structure, component, material or system meets specified quality standards and will perform satisfactorily during service, whereas SGS Quality Control focuses on the actual measurement, testing and supervision of a manufacturer’s own final product control, either by inspection of each unit or by sample testing.

With SGS’s help, the new roads in Mumbai will be constructed in full compliance with the national and international standards and requirements to guarantee the top quality of the project.
