The Botswana Bureau of Standards has appointed SGS Société Générale de Surveillance S.A as recognized organization to operate under the Standards Imports Inspection Regulations (SIIR) program.
On September 7, 2011, SGS was recognized by the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS), as one of the inspection agencies to operate under the Standard Import Inspection Regulations (SIIR), per Regulation 4 (2) of the SIIR.
The effective date of implementation of the SIIR recognition system is the October 1, 2011.
Importers are to make an application through BOBS for goods to be imported into Botswana and ensuring their suppliers do contact SGS offices abroad to organize for the testing and inspection of the goods.
Goods are to be tested to demonstrate compliance with local and/or international standards as well as with packaging and labelling regulations.
