SGS to Organize Free Webinars on Advanced Ultrasonic Testing in Nuclear Power Plants and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD)
With the tragic consequences of the recent tsunami that hit Japan still in the headlines and the consequent devastating impact on the nuclear power plant at Fukushima still causing widespread concern and panic, the focus on thorough nuclear power plant testing has never been greater. It is from this perspective that the SGS Competence Center for Non-Destructive Testing decided to host a free 60 minute webinar on providing an introduction to ‘Ultrasonic Testing for the Pre-service and In-service Inspection of Nuclear Power Plants’. In addition, SGS provides another free 60 minute webinar on ‘Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD): Theory and Practice’ due to the growing interest in this Non-Destructive Testing technique.
With the webinar on an introduction to ’Ultrasonic Testing for the Pre-Service and In-Service Inspection of Nuclear Power Plants’ SGS hopes to inform participants about the application of advanced techniques for the Pre-service Inspection and In-service Inspection of nuclear power plants. SGS will also provide information regarding how a Pre-service Inspection can benefit the In-service Inspection, and how thorough design aids the application of In-service Inspections. With an inspection approach that combines various essential elements, SGS seeks to implement strategies that detect possible degradation mechanisms in their very earliest stages. SGS also seeks to monitor all damage and ensure reproducibility during multiple interventions.

The other free webinar SGS has on offer is about Time of Flight Diffraction and through this webinar SGS hopes to inform participants about the characteristics of this testing method as well as its advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, SGS seeks to provide attendees with thorough information on Pre-service and In-service applications of TOFD.
