The American Petroleum Institute (API) Inspection Summit & Expo, which takes place at the Galveston Island Convention Center in Galveston, Texas, January 24-27, 2011, is one of the leading events for the oil, gas and petrochemical industry.
Organized by the American Petroleum Institute every two years, the summit provides a perfect opportunity to learn about new and existing industry codes and standards, hear about emerging trends and discuss the latest issues. Furthermore, it is the only networking event for inspectors in the industry.
Among the topics to be discussed at the API Inspection Summit & Expo are Pipeline Integrity Management, Systems and Work Processes for Excellence in Pressure Equipment Integrity, Optimizing the Number and Location of Condition Monitoring Locations and New and Improved API Inspection Codes and Standards. Moreover, attendees will gain a unique opportunity to learn about new developments in basic and advanced Non-Destructive Testing.
The four-day event is an ideal occasion for SGS to showcase its wide portfolio of services for the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Industry and meet potential business partners. The services offered by SGS will be presented throughout the exhibition at stand 101.
With extensive experience and competence in the industrial sector, SGS, who is platinum sponsor of the event, will take an active part in the summit sessions by holding four interesting presentations on the first three days of the summit, January 24-26, 2011.
During the first session on January 24, and focusing on piping and pipelines, Paul F. Schubert, expert for Asset Integrity Management will hold a presentation on the Application of Field Data Computers to Vessels and Piping. Attendees will have the chance to learn about new technologies that have been introduced into the inspection processes to improve the quality of assessment and to reduce the time between field data collection and release of the processed data as a completed report. The seminar will also present results from field usage of tablet computers for API-510 and API-570 inspections for three applications.
With the title ”Upstream Oil and Gas Well Site Inspection: Lessons Learned from Inspection of 25,000 Well Sites and Associated Plants” on January 25, Paul F. Schubert will discuss the unique challenges of inspecting oil and gas well sites, compared to the more traditional downstream and chemical facilities.
On the third day of the summit, January 26, SGS experts will give two presentations titled ”Reliability Focused Inspection: Key Factors to Ensure Predictability” and ”Mechanical Integrity Data Clean-Up in Preparation for RBI.” Anthony W. Chaney, an API certified Mechanical Integrity Engineer for SGS Industrial Services, will talk about the key factors of managing an asset and the utilization of methodology for a reliability-focused inspection program that decreases the likelihood of unexpected production interruptions and increases the overall reliability of the equipment. Further, Paul F. Schubert, in his session on mechanical integrity, will teach a systematic approach for evaluating the quality of data, developing methods to address project-specific deficiencies, estimating the scope of the effort and developing a work plan to produce a database suitable for transfer into Risk Based Inspection (RBI) software.
Attendees of the API Inspection Summit & Expo will be welcome to discuss any aspects of the many SGS services offered for the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical sector with SGS experts.
