SGS supports the healthcare industry by making the drugs safer and available all over the world through its global quality control laboratory network and certification services. Following the successful installation of the RFID based measuring and monitoring system "Ambient Systems ®", at Panalpina’s European HUB Airport in Luxembourg and the alignment of all operational processes, Panalpina Luxembourg SA as the operating party at this Airport received Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification provided by SGS. This will open up the opportunities for Healthcare customers to gain integrated access to numerous destinations offered by Panalpina to the US, Latin America, Africa and Asia, under best possible integrity of their products on cool or ambient temperature chain.
Panalpina’s Luxembourg Air Freight Division, a part of the Panalpina Group, is among the very first to offer such a certified global industry standard within an International Airport.
Daniel Lutz, Head of Own Controlled Operations and Project Manager at the Panalpina European HUB said: "It is a very important first step in developing our HUB further to comply with the Healthcare industry's requirements. Compliance will remain the key to satisfy our customers' needs of today and tomorrow."
“The GDP certification demonstrates that Panalpina shows dedication to quality in every aspect of their service to their customers. As Panalpina is already ISO 9001 certified compliance with the GDP requirements is a proof that the organization is able to deliver now and in the future good quality drugs as intended by the pharmaceutical manufacturers thereby serving the healthcare sector as a vital partner of the drug supply chain. We are proud to be a part of their continuous pursuits towards quality and service excellence”, says Eize de Boer, Global Manager, Life Science Audit Services at SGS.
About GDP Maintaining product safety and quality is a major concern. Moreover, the regulatory obligations and consumer expectations facing the pharmaceutical industry are increasing. With that in mind it is no surprise that consistent quality management systems have to be put in place for the entire supply chain of operations, from the early delivery of raw materials to the manufacturing plants, to the final shipment of finished drugs to the end user.
For this purpose it is evident that also the parties who are engaged in the shipment of medicines have to meet the stringent criteria for quality that have been set by the regulators and apply for the Good Distribution Practices (GDP) of finished dosage drugs. An independent assessment of compliance against this GDP guidance is the ultimate way to establish that the quality management systems were correctly implemented and taken care of by organizations.
