This year, SGS Hong Kong celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking a significant milestone of its operations since 1959. Now boasting a workforce over 1,100 strong, SGS Hong Kong is committed to the sustainable development of the business, people and society, with the aim of making the world better place for the future. To mark the historic event, celebrations were held on September 28, 2009, with SGS clients and colleagues.

The Gala Luncheon

In celebration of the 50th anniversary, SGS Hong Kong hosted a gala luncheon attended by top-ranking government officials, dignitaries and over 200 other distinguished guests. In keeping with the theme of “Make the Future Possible with Trust,” the event focused on SGS’ sustainability resolution, as reflected in the keynote speeches on sustainability trends and carbon neutral initiatives.

In lieu of gifts, charitable support in the form of donations was given to Doctors without Borders Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). This move was very much appreciated by guests, and as a token of their appreciation, MSF printed certificates for each of the guests with the names of both organizations displayed on them.

In addition, 30 clients and partners presented a video during the luncheon, expressing appreciation for the partnership and the value that SGS’ services bring.

The Orange and Red Celebration with SGS Colleagues

To mark the occasion, the SGS office was decorated with colorful balloon bouquets. At the reception area was a massive balloon column with an orange “50” on top, as well as a giant helium champagne bottle as the centerpiece which proved popular with photographers.

In Chinese culture, the color red stands for good luck, so SGS colleagues dressed in red or accented their outfits with the auspicious color. Everyone hoped to win at the lucky draw, which included prizes such as gold pens handed out by SGS CEO Chris Kirk. SGS colleagues also enjoyed the traditional Chinese birthday buns called “sou bao” and received limited editions of SGS’ 50th Anniversary leather card holders.

To top the great celebration, the management team paraded in each department and distributed more prizes and balloons in appreciation of each employee’s efforts in making the 50 years truly successful. SGS is proud of the contributions that each has made, and with the commemoration of achievements, the company also looks forward to an exciting future.

Happy 50th Birthday, SGS Hong Kong! Wishing you more years of success!
