The SGS Solar Test House project in Dresden, Germany is nearing completion, with the first engineering tests planned for summer 2009. The project, worth several million euros, brings fast and cost -effective PV module testing and certification into the heart of the Solar Valley, a region where most of the German solar technology manufacturers are located. The new laboratory, also known as the Dresden house, will be able to perform about a hundred full certifications per year.

With all construction work now completed, the 530 m2 PV module testing hall and its adjacent safety testing area are currently being fitted with the latest generation equipment, including several sun simulators and climatic chambers of various capacities. The testing facilities will allow large size PV modules of up to 2.20m x 2.60m to be tested.

Complete Quality Assurance Package

The Solar Test House service package was designed to cover PV modules testing and certification according to major standards (EN 61215, EN 61646 or EN61730 -1/2) as well as type testing and safety testing of final products. One of the strong points of the Solar Test House is the ability to offer a comprehensive service package in a test facility designed to handle an increasing number of testing requests. This allows SGS to guarantee fast testing procedures, covering a wide range of measurements with no waiting time.

With the SGS Microelectronics Laboratory located in Dresden as well, SGS is able to offer customers high-level expertise in the entire production cycle of silica and thin-layer solar technology. The microelectronics facility can analyze primary materials and provide detailed analyses to support design and development work, thereby helping manufacturers to identify any failures and material weaknesses at an early stage.

The SGS Solar Test House can coordinate a complete package of services for the PV industry, including services offered by other divisions of SGS Germany, ranging from component testing to onsite PV systems inspection. For solar technology manufacturers, the SGS Solar Test House will be the one-stop shop for all their quality assurance needs.
