SGS Wind Energy Services successfully attended the WindPower 2009 Conference and Exhibition - the world’s largest wind conference – in Chicago, carried out by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). With over 23,000 attendees and 1,280 exhibitors, WindPower 2009 broke all former attendance records.
WindPower 2009 was a great opportunity for representatives from SGS US, wind energy experts from the SGS Competence Centre for Renewable Energy in Hamburg, Germany and for project developers, investors, owners, and manufacturers of wind farm projects to come together. They discussed the variety of services SGS offers throughout the life-cycle of a wind farm project.
This SGS Life-Cycle Service already starts with the support in the conceptual phase of the wind farm project. Services such as Technical Consultancy and Tender Support minimize risks related to both costs and time during the execution of the project. Furthermore, the SGS Life-Cycle Services cover the site and design assessment and the manufacturing surveys of wind farm projects as well as the monitoring, the installation and the commissioning of the turbines.
For SGS Wind Energy Services the WindPower 2009 has not only provided a good chance to discuss the new SGS Life-Cycle-Services for the wind energy sector but it was also a good platform to present clients further valuable SGS Services including SGS Industrial Rope Access Services. Industrial Rope Access, a proven method of achieving a safe work position with difficult access, is very important for the in-service Inspections of wind turbines and was therefore one of the main topics at the WindPower 2009.
Another important focus point at the exhibition included in-service Inspections, Condition Monitoring and Failure Analyses. These SGS services are more frequently requested by wind farm operators, owners and maintenance contractors as a lot of problems with blades, gearboxes and generators had recently occurred. Stakeholders of a wind farm project increasingly seek the support of the SGS Wind Energy experts at the earliest possible stage to avoid quality or safety problems right from the start.
The feedback SGS Wind Energy Services received from the participants at the WindPower 2009 was very encouraging. SGS even entered into the next stage of negotiations with some important clients which involves discussing the scope of concrete projects and the timeline for start.
In order to improve trust in the projects and to secure the quality of wind farms SGS Wind Energy Services offers a wide range of inspection, supervision, and testing services for the wind energy sector. These services are offered globally for onshore and offshore wind farm projects.
