SGS Appoints New Head of Wind Energy Department
In April 2009, Axel Andreä was appointed as the new Head of the SGS Wind Energy Department. Andreä will take over responsibility for the Global Wind Energy Competence Center and the German Technical Office for Wind Energy in Hamburg.
Axel Andreä is a graduate of the Polytechnical University of Hamburg and his extensive experience in the wind energy business spans nearly 20 years. With a career that began at Windtest Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog GmbH in 1989, Andreä gained experience in the testing of wind turbines. After 1 year he moved to aerodyn Energiesysteme GmbH and worked for almost 5 years in wind turbine load simulation and the design of tubular steel towers. Thereafter he continued working as an expert in charge for load calculations and tower design at Germanischer Lloyd. In 2001 he took the opportunity to work at REpower as Head of Department, Load Assumptions, where he was mainly responsible for the development and certification of their 2MW wind turbine.
In 2002 Andreä returned to Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services and worked as Head of Department, Load Assumptions. In this key position he dealt with onshore and offshore load simulations, control systems for wind turbines, standardization on national and international levels as well as certification of ocean energy systems, project management and research.
Axel Andreä joined SGS on 15th of April 2009 and as Head of the Wind Energy Department he is responsible for the Global SGS Competence Centre, Wind Energy and for the German Technical Office for Wind Energy to strengthen and enhance SGS services to the wind industry in technical surveillance and consultancy.
SGS offers a wide range of services for products and projects in the wind energy sector. The reliability of structures and wind turbines is essential for them to perform successfully.
SGS’s independent certification and inspection services are needed to improve trust in the projects and to secure the quality of wind farms. SGS not only offers inspection and certification but works as an independent project surveyor, carrying out project monitoring and technical due diligence evaluation of wind farm projects both onshore and offshore wind farm projects.
