The Steering Committee of the Kyoto Protocol’s Joint Implementation Mechanism accredited SGS as Independent Entity. SGS successfully passed the multi year assessment process by the UN body yesterday and is now accredited for all 15 sectoral scopes. Only two companies globally hold this accreditation.
"We are very proud of this accreditation, it is a recognition of the high quality of SGS procedures and the work we provide," said Robert Dornau, Vice President, Climate Change Services at SGS. "Since 2005 SGS has assessed over 40 projects, all our clients are now assured that SGS was the right choice for them."
Edwin Aalders, Director, International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), says: “I congratulate SGS on this accreditation. This is a proof that the system is functioning and of the expanding infrastructure of this important mechanism.”
“The JI market has developed much better than we had expected”, adds Dornau, “we see this as a growth market and are investing in staff development. We are currently working on projects from Hungary to New Zealand, but the bulk of work is in Russia. Having a local presence in all those countries is a great help to our clients.”
The SGS Climate Change Program was established in 1997. SGS is accredited and active in all GHG programs world wide. Our expertise is based on the validation and verification of hundreds of greenhouse gas projects and inventories, ranging from the smallest through to the largest multi-site / multi-country emitters, and from simple through to complex and diverse project portfolios.
Joint Implementation is a project mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol. Emission Reduction Units generated by the mechanism can be used for compliance with emission targets by Kyoto Protocol countries and companies in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.
