Leak Test of the largest LNG carrier in the world
Quatar National Gas Company charged Samsung Heavy Industry with building an 266,000m³ LNG carrier called “Mozah” – the largest in the world that can load 50,000 m³ more gas than existing carriers.
Samsung Heavy Industry contracted SGS Korea with inspecting the LNG carrier. The primary barrier has been inspected by ammonia leak test and pressure test and the secondary barrier by pressure test.
As compared with other cases, for example inspecting a 138,000 m³ gas carrier of four tanks requires over four months of testing with one main set of control equipment. For the LNG carrier “Mozah”, which is larger than all carriers which have been ever tested SGS managed to inspect within one month. Three times more equipment and staff as usual, secured to finish the task according to the clients requirement.
SGS Industrial Services gained experience in testing more than 50 LNG carriers.
Our services for the Liquefied Natural Gas industry cover not only the inspection of carriers but we support our clients in all aspects of mitigating technical and commercial risks of the production or transport of LNG around the globe.
