Realizing the increasing importance and need for monitoring the health & safety of the food supply chain, SGS Egypt has expanded its testing capabilities thus positioning itself as the leading private market provider for these testing services.

SGS Egypt celebrated the start up of its Pesticide Residues Analysis Laboratory in Cairo June 22nd 2008 at its head offices in Harraneya, Cairo.  The event was organized by SGS Egypt chaired by Mr. Osman M. Osman under the auspices of H.E. Mr. Safwaat El Hadad – Deputy Minister of Agriculture to officially launch the soft opening of the new Pesticide Residues Analysis Laboratory which is actively serving both the Agriculture & Food Export industries. The event was attended by prominent figures from the Agricultural and Food Export Industry, as well as many other interested parties in consumer protection and food safety.  SGS Egypt was very proud to have the participation of Mr. Tarek Tawfik – Chairman of The Egyptian Chamber of Food Industry, celebrating this important event which is a big step forward in enhancing consumer protection to the Egyptian market and additionally promoting foreign trade. Also present where Dr. Hassan Sharawy, Executive Director of the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), Mr. Farouk El Shoubky – Chairman of The Egyptian Spices and Herbs Export Development Association "ESHEDA", and Mr. Amr El Tonsy Executive Director of The Horticulture Export Improvement Association "HEIA".

SGS is also pleased to announce the commercial inauguration of this state of the art facility on September 1st 2008.

With this significant initiative to expand its Global Pesticide Monitoring Activities, SGS Agricultural Services will be positioned to further expand it existing identity preservation programs, field trials and grading on site activities, as well as to support regulatory aspects on the region.  Training and guidance for the setup was provided from SGS Technical Governance network with a comprehensive involvement from our Team in SGS Institut Fresenius, Germany for technical and procedural standardization.
