SGS India Private Limited, Quality Control testing laboratory in Chennai (formerly Madras), underwent a National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) Surveillance Audit on 12th & 13th April 2008. The laboratory has successfully passed the NABL audit.

NABL is an independent agency under the oversight of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, and is registered under the Societies Act. NABL provides third-party assessment of the quality and technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories to Government, Industry Associations and Industry in general. The agency is authorised as the sole accreditation body for Testing and Calibration laboratories by the Indian Government. Its accreditation represents a formal recognition of the technical competence of a testing laboratory adhering to ISO 17025 Standard.

“The NABL accreditation of our Quality Control Testing laboratory in Chennai demonstrates our dedication to quality via continuous investment in our facilities,” said Ulrich Markens, Regional Business Manager Asia at SGS Life Science Services. “With the growing trend of large pharmaceutical firms to outsource manufacturing of APIs, intermediates and raw materials to India and China, SGS ensures that our laboratories maintain the highest quality standards.”

The SGS Chennai site is part of SGS’s Life Science Services network of 14 QC laboratories in North America, Europe and Asia. The facility employs 40 personnel and occupies approximately 2,400 square meters of state-of-the-art laboratory space at the Ticel Biopark. The SGS India testing site has been audited by many pharmaceutical companies as well as local Indian and international regulatory agencies. This NABL accreditation complements the U.S. FDA’s Pre-approval and GMP inspection in May 2007. The Chennai facility was classified as “acceptable” by the U.S. FDA. SGS Chennai site provides testing services in the GMP and GLP areas: raw material and finished product testing, microbiological testing, stability testing, toxicology, biotechnology and medical device testing.
