In December 2006, SGS delivered integrated management system certificates to one of the largest car producers in the CIS UzDaewooAuto, confirming the factory’s conformity to international standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
The ceremony took place at UzDaewooAuto premises during the first international conference focusing on development of management systems in automotive industry of Uzbekistan Republic. Before the conference started, its participants watched a film featuring the factory’s story in the corporate museum. Then they visited production workshops of the plant.
“The President of our country Islam Karimov called the automotive industry to be the locomotive of national economy," said Executive Director of the plant I. Akhmedzhanov when greeting participants of the seminar. "This is a very precise definition of the role played by the industry, which combines latest achievements of the science, complex know-how and new design trends.”
In support of those words Konstantin Timoshechkin, Systems and Services Certification Manager SGS Eastern Europe said that indeed automotive industry is one of the factors determining a state’s power.
According to the Head of UzDaewooAuto Training Center Anvar Teshebaev, there are 185 quality circles at the factory. They were established first in the Republic in 2001 following the initiative of UzDaewooAuto Corporate Innovations Department. Taking place once every half a year, the presentations of their results enable to continuously improve all that is related to production process. Above all, they aim at reduction of cost-price, quality increase and improvement of production process, satisfaction of customer needs. Since the moment of quality circles creation more than 3,000 suggestions have been generated. And, the 10th quality circles seminar took place in the presence of the international conference participants in December. The winners have been awarded by diplomas and bonuses.
JV UzDaewooAuto was established in 1994 by Uzbek Association of Automotive Companies Uzautoprom and South Korean Daewoo Motor. In 1996, the JV launched the automotive production (investment value 650 million USD) in Asaka (Uzbekistan) with capacity 200,000 cars per annum. In May 2005, Uzautoprom bought back the share of its South Korean partner. In 2006, output of UzDaewooAuto reached 140,000 cars, in 2007 the company anticipates 21.4% growth up to 170’000 cars. In 2008, the factory intends to reach the projected capacity.
