On September 19, SGS celebrated the 25-year jubilee of its activities in Russia among highly esteemed clients and partners. The gala event took place in Forum Hall located in front of the Moscow SGS Vostok Limited office.
The party was opened by Alim Saidov, SGS S.A. Chief Operating Officer Eastern Europe and Middle East, who presented key historical facts and achievements of SGS in Russia, starting from January 1981, when the Moscow representative office of “Societe Generale de Surveillance S.А., Geneva” was accredited at the Ministry for Foreign Trade of the USSR.
The Minister and Deputy Head of the Swiss Mission in Russia Mr. Lukas Beglinger reminded guests that 2006 is a jubilee year for Russian-Swiss relations. 350 years ago Genevan François Lefort was born, one of the closest associates to Peter the Great. 190 years ago the first Swiss Consulate opened in St. Petersburg, and 60 years ago – the Embassy of Switzerland in Moscow was established. So it happened that the Swiss SGS with its head office in the homeland of Lefort celebrates its Russian jubilee the same year. Mr. Beglinger noted that SGS is a worthy representative of the Swiss business community, bearing such national features as integrity and independence.
Mr. Peter Lindsay, Head of SGS Moscow representation in 1987-89, recalled the first SGS clients in the USSR – these were state unions entitled to execute foreign trade operations in the Soviet Union, namely, Tyazhpromexport, Exportlyen, Soyuznefteexport and others.
The music band «A’Cappella ExpreSSS» performed hits that never get old. A cake in the shape of an SGS certificate was the culmination of the party.
