Xavier Vital, SGS’s US-based Global Ecodesign Manager, will lead stakeholders and industry experts in a workshop at this year’s Sustainable Cosmetics Summit, 10 November, in Hong Kong.
This international event covers major sustainability developments in the beauty industry. Its aim is to encourage sustainability in the beauty industry by bringing together key stakeholders to debate these major issues in a high-level forum, and it is an honour for Xavier Vital and SGS to be invited to lead this key session.
Reducing Environmental Impact of Cosmetic Products
Looking at the environmental impact of cosmetic products, this workshop will examine the influences of raw materials, production, distribution & logistics, consumption and post-use. Life cycle analysis (LCA) data will also show the typical environmental footprint of cosmetic products.
Through case studies, guidance and practical advice, operators will learn how they can take positive steps to reduce their environmental impacts. During the workshop, Xavier Vital will cover:
- The various ways a cosmetic product influences the environment
- The typical life cycle of a cosmetic product and its environmental impacts
- Typical environmental metrics of cosmetics: LCA data
- Packaging impact of cosmetics
- Practical approaches to reduce environmental impact

Focusing on natural ingredients, sustainability metrics and marketing best practices, the summit comprises three sessions and two interactive workshops over two days.
