The UK’s decision to leave the European Union, commonly known as Brexit, has created uncertainty in the industrial manufacturing sector.

Brexit deal or no deal

Following the 2016 referendum, the UK Government is committed to withdrawing from the EU but the exact terms of that withdrawal are still unclear. There is also considerable opposition to Brexit, both in Parliament and in the country.

The UK Government has been negotiating the terms of a Deal with the EU, but this has consistently been rejected by Parliament. There is now the possibility of a No-Deal Brexit (leaving the EU without a deal or transition period). A No-Deal Brexit means the UK trading on World Trade Organization terms. It is expected to cause wide-scale disruption, including the reintroduction of border checks.

Brexit, with or without a deal, will have major effects on trade between the UK and the remaining EU-27. SGS has created a useful booklet to answer the most commonly asked questions in relation to Brexit, from a customer perspective. Download a copy >
