About IATF 16949:2016
The automotive industry faces many challenges, from the rapid growth of the supply chain in emerging markets, to the need for continuous improvement, reliability and cost effectiveness. In response to these challenges, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) has discontinued ISO/TS 16949, the well-known technical specification for automotive sector quality management systems, and released the first edition of the new IATF 16949 in October 2016.
Along with applicable customer-specific requirements, this new standard highlights the quality management system requirements for organizations working in automotive production, service and/or accessory parts of the automotive industry.
As highlighted by the IATF, the goal of this new international standard is the development of a quality management system that:
- Provides for continual improvement
- Emphasizes defect prevention
- Includes specific requirements and tools for the automotive industry
- Promotes the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain
