With 29% of greenhouse gas emissions in France originating in the transport sector, the importance of vehicle emissions testing is clear. Through our three French automotive brands, Sécuritest, Auto Sécurité and Vérif’autos, we conduct vehicle inspections and emissions tests for more than 8 million customers each year. This gives us a unique opportunity to raise awareness among motorists about climate and public health issues.

In May 2019, SGS France was awarded the “Enseigne Responsible” (responsible brand label) by Club Génération Responsable, a French asssociation with a mission to promote sustainable development through the environmental, quality and social actions of its members, which include the biggest names in the international retail sector. As members of the Club, our automotive brands participated in the Ensemble pour le Climat (Together for the Climate) campaign, with the aim of raising climate awareness among employees and customers, alongside 14 other major French retailers. The event was held in partnership with Climate Solidarity, during the European Week of Sustainable Development, June 1-15, 2019.

With new legislation on vehicle pollution control due to come into effect on July 1, we displayed "Ensemble pour le Climat" posters and copies of Club Génération’s white paper in the customer waiting areas at each of our 2,000 testing centers. This helped our staff to explain the rationale for the new regulations and gave them the opportunity to discuss vehicle pollution control and climate issues with approximately 300,000 customers.

We also promoted the campaign on our web pages and on social media, providing readers with tips on making small changes in their daily lives.

Additionally, we joined Laurent Palmier, President of Sécuritest, and Sébastien Danvel, President of Auto Sécurité, in roundtable discussions with the media to raise awareness on how to reduce vehicle emissions.

Our Enseigne Responsible requires us to continuously improve our sustainability practices. Next year we intend to improve sustainability performance at our points of sale and continue our outreach to customers on environmental issues.
