SG 182/25
Moldova adopts HG 643/2025, restricting hazardous substances in E&E equipment and harmonizing with the EU RoHS Directive.
Moldova's Government Decision No. 643, issued on October 1, 2025, and referenced as adopted on October 10, 2025, approves a Technical Regulation concerning the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic (E&E) equipment. This regulation aligns Moldova’s requirements with international, and particularly European Union (EU) standards, aiming to reduce risks to human health and the environment associated with hazardous chemicals in such products.
The regulation restricts the use of specific hazardous substances, often mirroring those covered by the EU’s RoHS Directive, including heavy metals like lead, mercury and cadmium, and certain flame retardants, in E&E equipment placed on the Moldovan market. Manufacturers and importers will be responsible for ensuring compliance with these restrictions and must provide technical documentation and conformity assessments as part of the regulatory framework.
The regulation helps facilitate Moldova’s trade and regulatory harmonization with the EU, supporting the free movement of compliant E&E goods. It reflects a broader trend of Moldova updating its technical regulations to strengthen human and environmental protection while fulfilling commitments under EU association agreements and action plans.
Under this new regulation update, Moldova will broadly recognize CE-marked products with a valid EU Declaration of Conformity for most regulated E&E devices, eliminating the need for additional national certification and the SM mark for such products.
This regulation will come into force on October 10, 2026.
