We are pleased to announce an expansion in per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) testing services at our facility in Fairfield, New Jersey, USA.
Global demand for PFAS testing solutions is on the rise as governments across the world begin to address the threat from these ‘forever chemicals.’ Recognized as harmful to both human health and the environment, PFAS use is coming under stricter regulation in many consumer product markets, escalating the need for reliable, independent testing and certification services.
PFAS testing solutions available at our Fairfield site include:
- Total fluorine screening: Utilizing a combustion technique followed by ion chromatography (IC) in accordance with EN 14582 standards
- Total organic fluorine (TOF) screening: Involving aqueous solution pretreatment and combustion followed by IC, also referencing EN 14582
- PFAS target analysis: Target analysis of 233 PFAS compounds featuring solvent extraction and detection via GC-MS and LC-MS/MS. Further expansion of the list of analytes is already under development.
These methodologies can be applied to a wide range of consumer goods, including food packaging, cookware, furniture, juvenile products and electrical and electronic equipment.
We offer compliance verification services for multiple US state PFAS legislations, including California's AB 1200 and AB 652, Minnesota’s HF 2310, and Colorado’s SB 24-081. Additionally, our experts can assist you in meeting global PFAS testing requirements, such as those specified by the European Union’s REACH Annex XVII and POP regulation.
Brian Murphy, SGS Laboratory Supervisor, stated: "This expansion in PFAS testing capabilities underscores our commitment to providing localized support in the fight against PFAS contamination. By ensuring access to the best available science through high-quality testing solutions, we help our customers safeguard consumer health while maintaining compliance with stringent PFAS regulations. This also reaffirms our position as the world’s leading provider of PFAS testing services.”
