SGS capabilities in agricultural commodities in East Africa
SGS has a long-standing presence in East Africa, providing comprehensive services for agricultural commodities. In Kenya, SGS has been delivering inspection and superintendence services for 75 years, while testing of agricultural products started over 25 years ago. In Tanzania, SGS began agricultural commodities testing in 2005. Across both countries, SGS covers a wide range of products, including feeds and ingredients, grains and oilseeds, soft commodities such as sugar, coffee, tea, spices, cocoa, palm oils and agricultural liquids.
Our services for agricultural commodities in East Africa include:
- Laboratory Analysis: Comprehensive testing for contaminants such as microbial presence, pesticide residues, heavy metals, aflatoxins, mycotoxins and veterinary drug residues; proximate composition tests (moisture, crude protein, ash content, crude fat, lipids, fiber, carbohydrates); mineral and elemental analyses; vitamin testing; absolute gamma radiation; natural compound analysis; and preservatives testing.
- Inspection and Superintendence: Draft surveys, grading and supervision of loading and discharge operations.
Both SGS laboratories in the region are ISO 17025 accredited, whereas the Mombasa facility is also GAFTA and FOSFA approved, ensuring reliable and internationally recognized results.
