ISCC Certification Services

Comply with a wide variety of ISCC certification schemes with SGS support.

The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Association is committed to driving sustainability through a wide range of transparent, credible and globally recognized certification schemes.

The goal is to empower companies and stakeholders across industries to build sustainable supply chains through trusted and comprehensive certification. ISCC schemes broadly verify responsible sourcing, traceability and deforestation-free practices, fostering positive environmental and social impact worldwide.

ISCC is a sustainability certification system for all feedstocks and markets. Depending on the market you wish to supply, a certain certification system is needed.

FAQs

ISCC was developed via an open, multi-stakeholder process and is governed by an association, comprising research institutes, NGOs, industry representatives and public sector stakeholders.

The ISCC Association (ISCC e.V.) is the legally registered body governing ISCC, guiding its strategic decisions and unifying and representing its stakeholders. The ISCC Association guarantees adherence to the multi-stakeholder process.

The relevant certification depends on your target market’s requirements (e.g. the applicable regulatory requirements):

  • ISCC CFC: quantify and verify the carbon footprint of products and supply chains, enabling reliable climate performance communication and supporting decarbonization targets
  • ISCC CORSIA and ISCC CORSIA PLUS: supports sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply chains and addresses GHG emissions from aviation, aligned with the ICAO’s CORSIA framework requirements
  • ISCC EU: verify EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) compliance, including the requirements for sustainable biomass and fuels, greenhouse gas (GHG) savings and additional ecological and social criteria
  • ISCC PLUS: certification for bio-based, renewable and circular raw materials, supporting transparent supply chains and credible sustainability claims across global markets

Depending on the selected certification system, different materials can be certified.

ISCC provides a list of certifiable materials for each certification system. All materials covered under ISCC EU and ISCC CORSIA can be covered under ISCC PLUS.

The ISCC certification process outlines the steps an economic operator must take to obtain an ISCC certificate.

Registration for ISCC certification takes place in the ISCC HUB, which replaces the registration form on the ISCC website.

An economic operator must be successfully registered in the ISCC HUB before any audit can be conducted.

An organization can be certified under multiple ISCC systems. It can choose what suits its needs best.

Furthermore, if you add an additional certification scheme to the same operational unit, you do not need to apply for a new registration number. It is sufficient to change it in the ISCC HUB to extend the current registration.

An ISCC certificate is valid for one year following its issue date. A certificate may only be issued after a successful audit.

Check out the detailed description of the ISCC certification process. The requirements depend on the scope of the company being certified.

The ISCC audit procedures are scope-specific and provide all relevant requirements. The audit procedures are based on the ISCC System Documents.

Additional documents, such as checklists, are provided in the ISCC website client section. It is strongly recommended to plan the audit in time.

For an initial audit, registered system users can prepare templates and other documents using the checklists in the ISCC client section. We can also provide these documents to SGS clients.
