Best Practices in Distributing Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices

Deteriorating drugs and medical equipment mean poor quality, offering little to no benefits when used. On the other hand, it may have negative effects on consumers as well. For example, vaccines if stored under inappropriate temperatures as specified by the manufacturer. If consumers are vaccinated with this vaccine, they may not have immunity as they should. or medical devices in the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) group. If stored under inappropriate temperatures, it may cause the diagnosis to be distorted. This problem may occur for many reasons. One of the reasons for this may occur during improper transportation and storage. Therefore, Effective drug distribution (Good Distribution Practice or GDP) is crucial in preventing issues, spanning from manufacturers to sales locations, ensuring quality throughout the supply chain. 

Currently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Thailand is aware of and gives importance to product quality assurance throughout the supply chain. Public health announcements have been issued for entrepreneurs to follow.

ปัญหายาและเครื่องมือแพทย์เสื่อมคุณภาพจะมีผลทำให้ผู้บริโภคได้รับยาและเครื่องมือแพทย์ที่ไม่มีคุณภาพ ใช้แล้วไม่เกิดประโยชน์ไม่เห็นผลว่าใช้ยานั้นแล้วดีขึ้นอย่างไร ในทางกลับกันอาจจะส่งผลเสียต่อผู้บริโภคได้อีกด้วย อย่างเช่นวัคซีนถ้าจัดเก็บภายใต้อุณหภูมิที่ไม่เหมาะสมตามที่ผู้ผลิตแจ้งไว้ ถ้าผู้บริโภคฉีดวัคซีนนี้เข้าไปอาจจะไม่มีภูมิคุ้มกันตามที่ควรจะเป็น หรือเครื่องมือแพทย์ในกลุ่ม in vitro diagnostics (IVD) ถ้าจัดเก็บภายใต้อุณหภูมิที่ไม่เหมาะสมก็อาจจะส่งผลให้การวินิจฉัยผิดเพี้ยนไปได้ ซึ่งปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นนั้นอาจเกิดได้จากหลายสาเหตุ หนึ่งในสาเหตุนั้นอาจเกิดขึ้นระหว่างการขนส่งและการจัดเก็บที่ไม่เหมาะสม ดังนั้นหลักเกณฑ์วิธีการที่ดีในการกระจายยาและเครื่องมือแพทย์ (Good Distribution Practice หรือ GDP) จึงเข้ามามีบทบาทสำคัญในการป้องกันปัญหานี้ตั้งแต่ผู้ผลิต ผู้นำเข้า ผู้จัดเก็บ จนถึงสถานที่ขายยาหรือผู้ได้รับอนุญาตในการจัดส่งผลิตภัณฑ์ยาและเครื่องมือแพทย์ โดยปัจจุบันสำนักงานคณะกรรมการอาหารและยา (อ.ย.) ของประเทศไทยได้ตระหนักและให้ความสำคัญในการประกันคุณภาพผลิตภัณฑ์ตลอดห่วงโซ่อุปทาน โดยได้ออกประกาศสาธารณสุขให้ผู้ประกอบการปฏิบัติตาม
