SQF Agents and Brokers Certification Strengthens Supply Chain Confidence

November 03, 2026

Agents and brokers play a critical role in global supply chains, influencing sourcing, procurement and trading decisions that affect product safety, quality and supply chain integrity. However, businesses involved in buying, selling or facilitating trade may not physically handle products, making it challenging to demonstrate effective supplier management, traceability and risk-based decision-making to customers and trading partners.

Supporting supplier assurance and responsible sourcing

Developed by the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI), the SQF Agents and Brokers Code is designed for businesses involved in sourcing, buying, selling or facilitating the trade of food and non-food products.

The Code addresses the management systems and controls needed to support consistent sourcing decisions, maintain reliable records and identify and manage potential supply chain risks.

We offer independent SQF Agents and Brokers certification services to help organizations verify their management systems, demonstrate due diligence and strengthen confidence among customers, suppliers and trading partners.

How can SQF Agents and Brokers certification benefit your business?

Certification can help agents, brokers and other trading intermediaries demonstrate their commitment to product safety, quality and responsible sourcing while strengthening their supply chain management practices.

Our certification services assess key areas of your operations, including:

  • Supplier approval and monitoring: evaluating procedures for supplier assessment, approval and ongoing performance monitoring
  • Product safety and risk management: assessing controls for identifying and managing product safety and supply chain risks
  • Traceability and documentation: reviewing records of sourcing decisions, supplier communications and product movements
  • Procurement and sourcing decision-making: examining the processes supporting consistent and accountable sourcing decisions
  • Internal verification and continuous improvement: assessing verification, corrective action and improvement processes

By strengthening these areas, organizations can improve traceability and accountability, provide verifiable evidence of their sourcing decisions and better address customer and retailer expectations.
