The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has implemented the Technical Regulation for Machinery Safety – Part 3: Lifting Equipment (01-05-21-182) to ensure that all lifting machinery and accessories meet essential health, safety and environmental requirements.
Approved by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), this regulation mandates that suppliers demonstrate conformity before products are placed on the market. In partnership with businesses, SGS acts as a critical link in this regulatory chain, providing the necessary inspections and certifications to verify that high-risk machinery operates within the Kingdom's safety benchmarks.
The regulation applies to a wide range of machinery and safety components, emphasizing risk-based design and mechanical integrity. Suppliers are required to conduct an iterative risk analysis to minimize hazards and ensure that all equipment can withstand expected operational stress without failure. Furthermore, all safety instructions, warnings and labels must be provided in Arabic to ensure clear communication for all operators.
Under this approval SGS Verification and Conformity Company is authorized to conduct conformity assessment activities to verify adherence to these stringent Saudi standards. The current scope of regulated products includes:
- Cranes: Mobile, tower, overhead travelling and portal bridge cranes
- Industrial trucks: Forklifts and rough-terrain trucks
- Lifting accessories: Slings (chain, rope, or textile), hooks and shackles
Safety components and interchangeable Equipment: Parts that perform critical safety functions or modify machinery functions.
Our conformity assessment activities under this scheme include the evaluation of technical files and risk assessment reviews. We ensure that products meet the requirements of the Conformity Assessment Form (Type 1a) as per ISO/IEC 17067.
This approval enables manufacturers, importers, and exporters to legally place their products in the Saudi market by securing the mandatory Certificate of Conformity or Inspection Certificate required for both new and used equipment.
