Launch of 2026 Geochemistry Guide

January 26, 2026

We are proud to launch the 2026 edition of the SGS Geochemistry Guide, a practical reference designed to support the selection of geochemical testing methods across mining projects.

The guide reflects current geochemical testing practices, recognizing that the level of analytical precision required depends on project objectives and position in the mining value chain. During early-stage exploration, cost effective methods capable of detecting low concentrations are essential, while grade control and production environments require high precision and high accuracy methodologies to support critical operational decisions.

How the guide is organized

The 2026 SGS Geochemistry Guide reflects our continued commitment to method reliability, consistency and confidence in geochemical data, supporting critical mining decisions. It is structured to help you navigate geochemical testing methods based on analytical purpose, required precision and project stage. It also includes a global map of our geochemistry laboratories, illustrating the breadth of our commercial laboratory network and centers of excellence, which support mining projects worldwide.

Key sections include:

  • Spotlights – highlighting selected developments in geochemical testing, laboratory capabilities, and service innovations
  • Geochemistry laboratory servicescommercial laboratories, on-site laboratories and mobile facilities
  • Sample administration and preparation – sample handling, preparation workflows and controls supporting data quality and consistency
  • Exploration analysis – ICP-OES and ICP-MS packages, fusion packages and individual analytical methods for early-stage exploration
  • Specialist geochemistry disciplinesSGS MMI, biogeochemistry, hydrogeochemistry and lithogeochemistry
  • Commodity-focused testing – analytical schemes for precious metals, battery and critical metals, and industrial minerals
  • Process control-grade analysisdigestion packages, solution packages and XRF analysis supporting high-precision operational control

Watch Andrew Pickering, our newly appointed VP, Geochemistry, as he introduces the 2026 SGS Geochemistry Guide and highlights key service developments, including expanded laboratory capacity, ESG-aligned analytical technologies and enhanced digital access to data through SGS MyLab.
