Oman Ministry of Education Achieves ISO/IEC 27001 Certification from SGS

September 01, 2026

The Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman has achieved certification to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, the international standard for information security management systems from SGS. The certificate was presented to H.E. Dr. Madeeha bint Ahmed Al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, at a ceremony held at the Ministry's headquarters in Muscat and attended by a number of Ministry officials.

The achievement crowns a sustained program of work to strengthen the Ministry's information security framework, apply international best practice in information protection and cyber risk management and build a secure, well governed and fully documented digital environment.

Certification Scope

The certified Information Security Management System covers the Ministry's information technology operations and information security activities for its systems, applications, databases and information processing facilities.

Certifying this scope means that access control, change management, incident response, supplier oversight, business continuity and the many other controls that keep those systems safe are managed through a governed system with defined ownership, measurement and review, rather than through practices that vary from one team to another.

Benefits of ISO/IEC 27001 to the Ministry

Certification to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 delivers practical value across the Ministry's operations:

  • Stronger protection of sensitive data: Information assets are identified, classified and protected through controls selected on the basis of assessed risk, which reduces the likelihood and the impact of unauthorized access, loss or disclosure.
  • Better cyber risk management: Systematic risk assessment gives management a clear view of vulnerabilities, dependencies and threat exposure across the certified environment, supporting informed decisions on where to invest.
  • Improved incident readiness: Defined detection, escalation and response arrangements mean incidents are handled through a tested process, limiting disruption to systems that schools and administrative teams rely on.
  • Clearer governance and accountability: Documented policies, roles and responsibilities make ownership of information security explicit at every level, from executive leadership to system administrators.
  • Support for regulatory and national compliance: The management system provides a structured basis for meeting national cybersecurity and data protection requirements and for evidencing that compliance when asked.
  • Greater stakeholder trust: Independent third party certification gives objective assurance to government entities, education partners, employees and the public that the Ministry's information security arrangements have been assessed against an international standard.
  • Continual improvement: Internal audit, management review, corrective action and measurement keep the system current as technology, services and the threat landscape change.

Together these outcomes strengthen the reliability of the digital services that underpin public education in Oman and reinforce confidence in how the Ministry manages the information entrusted to it.

We congratulate the Ministry of Education on achieving ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and are proud to have supported its commitment to protecting information across the education sector.
