SGS Authorized to Conduct SMETA Basic Internal Auditor Workshops in Malaysia

July 03, 2025

We are proud to announce that we have been officially recognized by Sedex as an authorized training provider for delivering Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) Basic Internal Auditor workshops to businesses in Malaysia. These two-day workshops provide an in-depth introduction to the entire SMETA audit process, pre-audit preparation, SMETA audit scope, and SMETA audit requirements.

As global supply chains are increasingly being scrutinized for ethical and responsible practices. SMETA, delivered by Sedex, has emerged as a widely used social audit methodology worldwide.

As Sedex and SMETA’s influence in the Asia market grows, more and more organizations are offering unauthorized SMETA training that may deliver inaccurate information. To unify SMETA training and help businesses better understand how SMETA audits can be used to enhance performance in responsible supply chains, Sedex launched the SMETA Training Authorization Program in Malaysia.

After undergoing a rigorous selection process, we were designated an authorized training provider, based on our proven expertise, global presence and longstanding commitment to sustainability and ethical compliance. Our qualified trainer leverages practical experience, scenario-based simulations, and role-playing exercises to ensure participants gain valuable knowledge in an engaging and supportive learning environment, aligned with real-world audit expectations.

Only Sedex authorized organizations (AAC) and authorized trainers are qualified to conduct Sedex and SMETA 7.0 Awareness Introduction and SMETA Basic Internal Auditor workshops.

About SMETA

SMETA is a highly recognized audit methodology trusted globally, for assessing sites on their labor, health and safety, environmental, and business ethics practices. It empowers businesses to deeply engage in responsible sourcing, safeguard workers’ rights and maintain ethical practices throughout their supply chains. Employing a systematic approach, SMETA incorporates central ETI Base Code clauses and local labor laws, focusing on sustainable and responsible supply chain related social and environmental issues, such as working hours, working environments, labor rights, health and safety, waste management, energy saving and other materialities.

SMETA is currently used in more than 180 countries and regions and more than 40+ industries. Sedex is continuously reviewing and updating SMETA to adapt to the latest trends in global sustainability and meet the real needs of members and stakeholders. SMETA audits were updated to Version 7.0 in the third quarter of 2024.
