Opening of New Construction Laboratory in Colombia Supports Our Contribution to the Circular Economy

The opening of our new construction laboratory in Colombia allows us to successfully maintain a direct and positive impact on the construction industry.

On March 24, 2023, SGS officially opened a new construction laboratory in Bogotá, Colombia, although, due to high demand from clients and the business field, the laboratory actually began delivering services three months prior.

The opening ceremony was attended by Frankie Ng (CEO), Charles Ly Wa Hoi (EVP C&P), Jessica Sun (SVP Human Resources), Milagros Villena (LATAM Regional Manager HR), Alfonso García (Regional Controller LATAM), Luis Felipe Elias (COO LATAM), Iván Dominguez (Colombia Managing Director), Andrés Guerrero (Construction Laboratory Director), Andrea Mosquera (Cross Commercial Manager Colombia), Camilo Gaviria (Colombia Controller) and the whole construction team.

The opening of this laboratory is seen as a success for the SGS business as it allows the team to have a direct and positive impact on the construction industry. Recently, the Colombian government has invested in real estate and a circular economy, and now SGS is well positioned to support their sustainability efforts.

Services provided by the new construction laboratory

• Collection of concrete cylinders: a transport system developed by SGS that allows specimens to maintain humidity avoiding any alteration due to shocks and vibrations
• Humidifiers: our curing rooms and tanks ensure the curing of specimens in compliance with regulatory requirements with electronic equipment that automatically regulates humidity and temperature conditions
• Temperature control: QClient web and mobile application, which allows the client to request sample collection services and schedule the respective tests
• Test results: SGS has a unique code for each sample tested using QR codes with all results immediately uploaded to the virtual platform where the client can view them, once approved
• Training and development
• Verification of techniques
• Kratos: an application for the internal management of the process of collecting samples and services for construction laboratories

• Hydraulic presses for concrete breaking module
• Hydraulic presses for masonry tests
• Machine for the angles for tests on stone aggregates
• Marshall presses for testing asphalt and CBRs in soils
• Nuclear hydrometers for soil compaction testing
