Moldova Issues New List of Toy Safety Standards

Moldova has made several changes to its list of standards for presumption of conformity with the nation’s Technical Regulation on Toy Safety. The latest list of toy safety standards became effective on October 7, 2022.

On October 7, 2022, Moldova’s Ministry of Economy issued Order No. 92 of September 27, 2022 (Order No. 92/2022), to approve the list of Moldovan standards that adopt harmonized European standards for presumption of conformity with the nation’s Technical Regulation on toy safety.

The latest set of standards transposed Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/1992 from the European Union (EU) on harmonized standards in support of Directive 2009/48/EC on toy safety (SafeGuardS 153/21). This new list of standards contains seven changes when compared to Order No. 39/2021 (SafeGuardS 73/21) – inclusion of:

• SM EN 71-2:2021 for flammability
• SM EN 71-3+A1:2021 for migration of certain elements
• SM EN 71-4:2021 for experimental sets for chemistry and related activities
• SM EN 71-7:2014+A3:2020 for finger paints
• SM EN 71-12:2017 for N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances
• SM EN 71-13:2021 for olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games
• SM EN IEC 62115:2020 and SM EN IEC 62115:2020/A11:2020 for electric toys

The new list of standards under Order No. 92/2022 for toy safety is summarized in Table 1.

Order 92/2022 repealed Order No. 39/2021 on harmonized standards in support of the nation’s Technical Regulation on toy safety. The new Order can be considered as effective on October 7, 2022 – the day of its publication in the Official Gazette.
